Friederike Behrens was born in Lüchow, south-east of Lüneburg, in 1820. She was the second child of Jakob Behrens, a Lüchow merchant who had been born in Lüneburg, and his wife Henriette, née Joseph. Friederike grew up with her siblings in Lüchow.
Possibly after the death of her parents in the 1860s, Friederike moved in with her brother Joseph (Robert) Behrens, who had managed a bank in Lüneburg since the 1880s. Friederike Behrens died of cancer in October 1884 and was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Lüneburg.
