Marcus Matthias was born on October 1, 1873 in Lüneburg as the second child of Bernhard Matthias, a merchant from Brunswick, and his wife Sophie, née Marcus, who was from Lüneburg. Marcus died on 27.11.1873, not yet two months old, of “convulsions”, as the synagogue congregation"s death list notes. He was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Lüneburg.
