The existence of Abraham Post is only known because he appears on the register of deaths of Lüneburg"s Jewish community. Abraham Post was born in Emden in 1826, the son of Hanne Mangels Post. In the 1850s, he was a prisoner in the Lüneburg chain prison at the foot of the Kalkberg. The prisoners there wore chains on their feet and sometimes also on their hands. They had to work under harsh conditions, both outside in the nearby gypsum quarry and inside the building, making cigars or wicker products. They all received religious instruction - teachers of different denominations were employed in the prison for this purpose, including a Jewish teacher.
In February 1853, Abraham Post died in the Lüneburg chain prison and was buried in the Jewish cemetery.
