Textile store Salomon Oberschützky
Friederike “Rieke” Aron was born in 1836 in Altona, which still belonged to Denmark at the time. Around 1858, she married textile merchant Salomon Oberschützky, who also came from Altona. In the early years, the couple traveled a lot: their son Joseph was born in Stade in 1858 and their daughter Johanna in Bremerhaven in 1862.
The Oberschützkys then moved to Burgdorf near Hanover, where they settled down and opened a textile business. There was a relatively large and important Jewish community in Burgdorf at that time. Between 1868 and 1880, Rieke Oberschützky gave birth to eight more children.
In 1885, after roughly twenty years in Burgdorf, the Oberschützkys moved their textile business to Lüneburg. With the exception of the eldest son Joseph, all their children came with them - presumably some of the older sons and daughters also worked in the business. After a short time, the store in Lüneburg was well established.
Rieke Oberschützky, née Aron, died in 1891 and was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Lüneburg. Her husband Salomon survived her by more than twenty years. He was also buried in Lüneburg in 1923.
