Textile store Salomon Oberschützky
Salomon Oberschützky was born in 1831 in Altona, which was still Danish at the time. In the 1850s, he moved through northern Germany as a travelling merchant. Around 1858, he married Friederike “Rieke” Aron, who also came from Altona. Their son Joseph was born in Stade in 1858, their daughter Johanna in Bremerhaven in 1862. The family then moved to Burgdorf near Hanover, where they settled down and opened a textile store. At the time, Burgdorf had a relatively large and important Jewish community. Between 1868 and 1880, eight more children were born there.
In 1885, after around twenty years in Burgdorf, Salomon Oberschützky moved his textile business to Lüneburg. With the exception of his eldest son Joseph, all the children came with him - presumably some of the older sons and daughters also worked in the business. After a short time, the store was also well established in Lüneburg.
Salomon"s wife Rieke died in 1891 and was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Lüneburg. As a widower, Salomon Oberschützky lived in Lüneburg for more than twenty years. He died in 1923 and was also buried in the town"s Jewish cemetery.
