Emma Rachel Meyer was the third child of Emma Meyer, née Lazarus, and her husband Mendel Meyer. She was born in Lüneburg at the beginning of September 1862, just over ten months after her older brother Moritz.
In 1865, she fell ill with measles, for which there was no vaccination or medication at the time. Emma Rachel died on April 14, 1865. Just two weeks before, her younger brother Ephraim Albert had died, also from the measles. Both children were buried in the Jewish cemetery in Lüneburg.
