Mathilde Hahn was born in Blumenthal near Bremen in August 1844. Her father was the merchant Meyer Hahn from Blumenthal, her mother was a member of the Wolff family in Vegesack. At the time, Blumenthal and Vegesack were part of the large Jewish community of Aumund to the west of Bremen.
Mathilde Hahn became a cook. In Lüneburg, she worked in the household of Sally Heinemann. In 1863, at the age of just 19, she died of typhus and was buried in Lüneburg"s Jewish cemetery.
