Arthur Alexander was the first child of Rosalie Alexander, née Marcus, and her husband Samuel Alexander. His parents lived briefly in Lüneburg after their marriage in 1891 and then moved to Lauenburg to set up a textile business there. Arthur died in Lauenburg in 1892, only one day after his birth, and was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Lüneburg.
