Mendel Meyer, raw products (1860s/1870s)
Mendel Meyer was the first child of secondhand and produce merchant Benjamin Meyer and his wife Georgine, née Mendel. In 1828, he came to Lüneburg with his parents and siblings. The family probably originated from the region of Neustadt am Rübenberge. Like his father, Mendel Meyer became a second hand and produce merchant. In May 1859, he married Emma Rachel Lazarus in Hamburg. She came from a Hamburg Jewish family and moved to Lüneburg. The couple had six children, at least three of whom died very young.
In 1879, Mendel"s wife Emma died. As a widower with teenage children, Mendel married again. His second wife was Regine, nee Tachau. The two of them did not have many years together: Mendel died in 1888 and, like his first wife Emma before him, was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Lüneburg.
