Hulda Nelke was born in Wippra near Sangerhausen in 1857. She later lived in Delligsen in the district of Holzminden. In October 1913, she married the widower Jacob Kupferstein in Lüneburg, whose first wife Rosa had died shortly before. It is possible that she was already a widow herself. In Kupferstein"s house at Lünertorstraße 4, she ran a shop selling antiques and luxury goods.
Hulda Kupferstein, née Nelke, died in 1929, and Jacob Kupferstein died a year later. Both were buried in Lüneburg"s Jewish cemetery.
