Caroline Lefeld was born in 1829 in Bolzum (now Sehnde), where there was a relatively large Jewish community at the time. Her parents were Moses Lefeld (Levy) and Jette, née Herzberg, who came from Celle. They later moved to Celle with Caroline and her siblings.
In December 1865, in the town of Harburg, Caroline married Lüneburg merchant Alex Rosenstein, who had recently become a widower and had to take care of four children between the ages of four and eleven. Caroline helped raise the children, and in 1867 her own daughter Emma was born in Lüneburg.
Caroline Rosenstein, née Lefeld, died in Lüneburg in 1894 and was buried in the town"s Jewish cemetery. Alex Rosenstein became a widower once again. He died in 1898 and was also buried in Lüneburg"s Jewish cemetery.
