Bela Marcus was the second child of Magnus Marcus Sr. and his wife Sophie, née Levy. The couple had moved from Walsrode to Lüneburg around 1871. Bela was their first child who was born in Lüneburg - on June 4, 1874. He died just twelve days later. The cause of death was listed as “jaw spasm” (presumably a form of tetanus) in the death register of the Lüneburg synagogue. Little Bela Marcus was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Lüneburg.
