Rosa Wallach was born on December 15, 1838, in Rendsburg, the second child of Jacob Baruch Wallach and Therese Wallach, née Daniel. In 1867, she married Wandsbek-born Theodor Philipp, who had come to Lüneburg two years earlier as a teacher for the Jewish community.

Their son Samuel was born in 1868, followed by their daughter Olga in 1869. In the 1870s, Rosa and Theodor Philipp ran a paper shop at Große Bäckerstraße 10 in addition to his teaching job which was not particularly well-paid .

In their early years in Lüneburg, the family moved frequently, mostly subletting rooms. From 1877 to 1892, the Philipps finally rented their own apartment at Heiligengeiststraße 15. There, they also ran a kind of boarding house for boys from Jewish families who attended secondary school in Lüneburg.

Rosa Philipp, nee Wallach died in 1902 and was buried in Lüneburg"s Jewish cemetery.
